With the focus turned on stick and negativity in the industry – whether it’s from customers, clients, colleagues or trolls on social media, Clive Holland, host of The Clive Holland Show wanted to know how you are dealing with stick and negativity in industry, on and off social media? Clive spoke to Fix Radio’s very own Brad & Sam from the Bald Builders Breakfast on this, how they deal with it on socials and at work as well as Nick Bundy from N Bundy Electrical. Bundy said: “It’s true that on a video, I can get a thousand comments that are nice and you only get one that’s not nice and it ruins everything especially if you get someone say something stupid or attacks you personally. You are going to get this unfortunately and everyone has an opinion but I don’t think everyone should share their opinion especially if it’s not constructive or nice enough to say. Remarking on how he responds to negativity, Bundy said: “Initially, I used bit back a bit but realised they my attention to get the thrill of feeling like they have won. I now just ignore it.” One caller said: “You'll always get somebody wanting to slag your work off. They have nothing better to do. Just block them and move on. Life's too short!” Another said: “30 years in the trade I’m amazed by what I see on Insta, some trade videos are pure class and there’s always new tricks of the trade to be learnt , but there’s always so many negatives and haters! One thing I’ve learnt is believing in what I do and thriving off customer comments and what friends think.” Brad & Sam said: “We just block and delete. When we first started on socials, you are putting out videos and you are proud of your work and you put it out for the world to see, there will be more ways to ‘skin the cat’. Everyone has got an opinion but then you have these traders come along saying you are a ‘cowboy’, I would do it this way. First, it sort of gets you and you take it back and say come on now. It gets you and breeds negativity. “So what we have learnt over the years doing it, bear in mind we have been doing this for 10 years now, we just block and delete it and don’t even engage in that conversation. We have got a block list of 20,000 people on Facebook. The problem is when you leave it there, it breeds more and more negativity.”
