On today's show, John Roberts tackles the seasons of spring and summer for landscapers. He chats with Dan Kewley and Kevin Fitzpatrick about their approach to working in the warmer months. Dan notes they've hit the "sweet spot" workwise as the weather has cleared up a bit. "We're playing catching but making good progress. As a business, it's been a good winter for us. We planned well, which has given us a good start to the financial year." He adds: "In the spring, we focus our business on planting, maintenance, a lot of hedge-laying and fencing work." In the winter, especially during the rains, Dan and his team heavily relied on their maintenance clients. "In the colder months, I try and save up as many jobs that can be done in any weather such as fencing, garden border work, and construction of timber frame buildings (sheds)." Kevin points out that weather is a big challenge for landscapers, which is why he takes a break in winter. "I came back to work in mid-February, and it was just straight into bad weather. I'm currently behind in jobs because of this weather." He argues that over the past 12 months, the weather "seems to be getting worse" compared to the previous year. Listen to the full podcast here.
