A man has plead guilty to 24 breaches of the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations Act 1988, after he carried out gas work in homes in the northeast despite not being a Gas Safe Registered plumber. Dean Mulholland Blues faced Newcastle Crown Court last week faced with these serious charges over work completed in homes between September 2016 and December 2017. The court heard that Mr Blues used a variety of deceptive strategies to remain undetected and carry out the illegal work that put all the victims lives at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning, asphyxiation, fire and explosion. Using multiple bank accounts and phone numbers, the conman used false names on Instagram and Facebook to falsely show off his work, qualifications and business credentials, with many falling for the trap and hiring the unqualified man to complete gas work. HSE inspector Jonathan Wills added “If anyone has had any gas work carried out by Mr Blues, I urge them to ensure that the work is now checked by a registered Gas Safe Register engineer as soon as possible.” Mr Blues was given a 3 year prison sentence and is disqualified from being the director of a company for 12 years.
