Posted: Friday, July 9th, 2021

Can you imagine walking onto site on a Monday morning and in comes your apprentice with a grin from ear to ear knowing he’s just won big having a flutter on the weekend?

Well that was the reality for a group of tradesmen in Melbourne, Australia, after an apprentice plumber nailed a nine-leg horse racing acca that pocketed the youngster $13,260 (£7,159) off a $5 (£2.50) bet.

Jonnie Dimopoulos, 19, said he threw a “hail-mary” when he put bets on 9 different horses, greyhounds and harness races at 7 different locations around Australia.

The first leg was a win on a horse called Onesmartfella who won at meet in Terang.

Following that he won the remaining legs at Warragul, Lismore, Rockhampton, Gosford and Mandurah greyhound meetings.

Speaking to the Daily Mail he said “I'd had a long day at work and thought I would throw on a $5.00 multi (Australian for acca!)."

“I've done a few like this before, I just take some of the tips and favourites and hope for the best”

'I watched the first one win and then did some stuff and couldn't believe it when I checked my account before I went to bed.”

The lucky names of his horses and greyhounds included Stringgray, Lots Of Chatter, Beauregard, Quinn Bale, Alta Engen, Barooga Frabky, Robust Spirit and Overshadowed.

The last leg to come in was a harness race at a venue in Gloucester Park.

The tradesmen plans to spend his winnings on a new work truck (or ute as they call them down under) and is going to give $3000 to his dad - legend.
