CONSTRUCTION WORKERS LOVE THEIR JOBS!

Posted: Monday, August 7th, 2017

At Fix Radio we are pretty big fans of the construction industry – so much so that we created an entire radio station around it. However, we are overjoyed to hear that we were not alone in our passion for all things construction.

According to a recent survey commissioned to mark the launch of the One4all Spotlight Awards, people in construction are pretty happy with themselves. Well done lads!

The survey, which interviewed 1,220 workers found that:

30% of workers in the trades and construction sector enjoy their job and plan to remain with their company “for the foreseeable future.”

  • A phenomenal 13% of the workers surveyed said that they like where they work so much they hope to stay there for the rest of their lives.

  • 50% of trades and construction workers said they were happy to work longer hours than they are contracted for #overtimepay.

  • 41% would take on more responsibility than their job requires

  • 26% of construction workers admitted that they would be happy to take on more responsibility than their job role requires.

What’s particularly interesting about this survey, at least for us at Fix Radio, is that often we find that tradesmen don’t have the best reputation. Sadly, some people seem to think that we are a bunch of lazy layabouts who drag out projects so we can improve our bottom line.

Happily, this survey squashes that ridiculous myth and tells the public what we already know - that we in construction are passionate about all things buildings, we do what we do because we love it – take that, doubters!

That being said, we were pretty happy to see that for most tradesmen, family and romantic relationships come before careers – and we think this is a ruddy good thing. Don’t get us wrong, at Fix Radio we work pretty hard – but we don’t believe this should ever be at the expense of friends and family and we are proud of our industry for having their priorities in order. Well done lads.

However, it would seem that the construction folk are pretty money-minded – and quite right too! When asked if they would stay in their current position, even if it meant a pay cut by only 11%, they said they would. To be honest, we don’t blame you.

Sadly, if you are interested in entering the One4all Spolight awards, which recognises the UK’s best employees, you are a little too late as nominations closed on 10th July – woops! And the winners will be announced on 8th August. However, if you do fancy entering one of your employees in there is always 2018. The criteria includes:

  • Having gone above and beyond for their business/client

  • Delivering a high quality service and exceptional customer service

  • Demonstrated commitment and passion for their job

  • Having reached or exceeded sales targets
