Wondering whether to go with a quote or an estimate? Get your answers here, as fellow decorators join hosts Joel Bardall and Todd Von Joel on The Painting & Decorating Show to talk about which one they prefer and why, as well as their approach to putting them together. North Wales-based decorator Gareth Roberts says he's been offering estimates to customers for the past few years. "When I started six years ago, I was just giving out quotes to customers. Later on, I started to notice little things creep in and then I switched to doing estimates." He adds that with estimates there's a lot more flexibility and "far less pressure". Todd agrees, "I'm moving over to estimates now. I keep getting stuck on quotes." Hertfordshire-based Chris Ordinaire with 30 years of experience reveals that he too prefers an estimate. "Estimates give you a bit of wiggle room if something goes wrong. I usually email the estimates to clients with an explanation of how the work will be carried out." Award-winning decorator from Coventry, James Reeve notes that he is more comfortable with offering quotes over estimates. "I think it's easier for everyone. Particularly from the customer's point of view, it's fair. Customers have a budget for the work and they aren't too keen to receive an estimate," he discloses. Listen to the whole show here.
