Jack Smith, a Level 2 Bricklaying apprentice with TG Building Contractors, has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the regional Guild of Bricklayers junior competition, Cornish Stuff reported.

Representing the St Austell campus of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), Jack secured his place at the top of the leaderboard during the Western regional competition held at Swindon College.

The competition, known for its intense bricklaying challenges, rigorously tested participants' skills, abilities, and expertise, making Jack's win even more impressive.

Jack’s exceptional performance in these tasks earned him first place in the junior category.

Reflecting on his success, Jack said, “I’m incredibly proud to see all the hard work and dedication I’ve put into my apprenticeship recognised in the regional competition, and I’m looking forward to representing Cornwall College on a national stage and showcasing the skills I’ve gained during my time at TCCG.”

Neil Cochrane, apprenticeship programme manager in Bricklaying at TCCG, praised Jack’s meticulous attention to detail, work ethic, and punctuality.

“Not only did Jack impress his fellow competitors in the competition, but he also managed to impress the judges with his outstanding craftsmanship. The judges had recognised Jack's outstanding skillset, which earned him the well-deserved first place in the junior competition,” Neil highlighted.

The upcoming finals in London will gather the top bricklaying apprentices from across the country, each competing for the prestigious title of Guild of Bricklayers national champion.
