Prep is a crucial part of a painter/ decorating job, on this week's episode Joel Bardall and Todd von Joel are joined by the Paint Warrior aka Kevin Tingley to learn how 'by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail'. Kevin outlines the essential steps in surface preparation before painting. "A surface has got to be dust-free, clean and sealed before starting anything. You can't do anything that is going to contaminate your finish." Sanders, scrapers, detailing chisels and a knife are tools he uses in the prep stage. In terms of materials, he uses sealers such as Zinsser's Peel Stop. He adds: "Most decorating fails are due to poor prep." Joel says: "If you skip the prep stage or cut a corner it could lead to more issues. When that happens, you get callbacks, and you have to fix the problem again but this time you're not getting paid for it. That's why it's so essential to try and do it properly the first time." Todd adds: "Be prepared to listen and learn. Always look for more efficient and better ways to do the job." Listen to the full podcast here.
