Dating clients, not getting an apprenticeship and day rates

Posted: Thursday, December 7th, 2023

On this week's episode of The Electrical Show, host Thomas Nagy and Paul Meenan debate what can and can't be done in the trade.

Is it okay to learn the trade through short courses? Thomas doesn't think so. However, Paul notes that it's possible. "I believe it's always the conduct of the individual, their ability and the willingness to know what they know and what they don't."

But do you need to get an apprenticeship? "Yes," says Thomas, "Because I firmly believe that you learn to drive after you pass your test. Your apprenticeship is no different, it gives you the basic skills."

So, it is OK to ask what other contractors what they charge? "It's a tricky question," says Thomas, "The hard part is getting an honest answer." Paul pipes in, "It depends on the work area, but I would say no."

Further on, they discussed discuss having websites, not advertising, overcharging customers, having several jobs running at once, and safety protocols when working alone.
