For the last 18 months many tradespeople have been so flooded with work that marketing and advertising investment has probably been pushed to the bottom priority list. But with clear signs that the repair, maintenance and improvement market is slowing, advertising investment will have increasing importance. Appearing last week on the Painting & Decorating Show, hosted by Joel Bardall, Jon Mears, marketing expert and author of several books, advised tradespeople to invest in advertising to build a steady stream of work. “The key for me with any marketing is little and often. Be consistent with it,” said Mears during the show, where he was joined by Joel Bardall and Tood Von Joel. “With a lot of the trades it is almost like a badge of honour not to advertise. You can run a successful business without advertising – absolutely. But if you want a reliable stream of new customers coming in, something that you can control, advertising is key to that,” he added. For the full show click below.
