Have you ever worked for someone famous?

Posted: Thursday, November 2nd, 2023

Clive Holland, host of The Clive Holland Show, recently turned focus to the fact that working in the trades means tradespeople meet all sorts of people – both pleasant and unpleasant. Clive wanted to know if you’ve ever worked for a famous or mega rich person, and whether you have or haven’t - If you did, would you act differently, or even bump your price up a bit?

Clive was joined by great friends of the show Reece Stewart for his thoughts - as well as George from GM Joinery for his tale.

George said: “I have worked for someone famous and he is probably the only famous person that I have worked for. He was actually a friend at the time. He was a professional boxer and wasn’t in the limelight when I worked for him. He had bought a flat and called me to ask if I could fit the kitchen, doors and things like that. And this lad fought on Sky Sports for a British title on a Saturday and on a Monday I saw him at the flat with his belt it was amazing.”

A caller to the show Rob said: “I did a job for a bloke who said he'd won the Irish Lotto. He never paid on time due to not getting the cheque yet. I waited and waited? He never paid.”

Another John Pope, added: “I got asked to price up a job for Michael Holbrook Penniman JR. When I turned up it was pop star Mika! Sadly, I didn't get the job. Nice guy though”

And another Ludlow Builders, pointed out that: “We did a job for one of the blokes of MasterChef is all I'm prepared to say. Other than, a total nightmare job, he treated us like slaves in his kitchen! Obnoxious twat!!”

Domestic Build Ltd said: “I never get star struck but if Denzel Washington ever asked me to do a job for him, I would do it for nowt! Love that guy.”

And NPH Carpentry said: “I Did some work for Tony Hadley, Spandau ballet really nice guy. Very chilled out and a good laugh. I also did some door locks and security stuff for Rupert Grint from Harry Potter. Cool house with awesome decor, his brother had some rally cars flying about too.”

Stewart explained that: “Not me personally, but a friend of ours. She did this job for a celebrity and she said I tell you what, I don’t need you to pay me anything but if you put this on your Instagram account and promote my business, I will call it even. And this celebrity agreed but what she didn’t realise was that she had a personal and public account and this celebrity put it on her personal account instead of her public one but that’s not what they agreed.

“For me I charge normal price there is no way I would give a discount simply because someone is a celebrity.”
