A tradesperson without their tools is as much use as a chocolate teapot. The best tools save a tradie time, energy and boost your productivity. Show host Chris Frediani delves into which tools can bring out the best results on the job with inputs from guests on this week's episode of The Plastering Show. John, who has been a plasterer since 1988, tells Chris that he's more traditional and has been using a Marshalltown 14" x 4 3/4" carbon steel finishing trowel for 10 years. "This is my go-to trowel for just about everything," he says. He reveals that he has all the latest tools most of which aren't used or touched, he prefers to stick to the 14" Marshalltown trowel as it gets the job done best. Ed, who has been skimming and plastering for 18 years, shares that he also prefers the traditional trowels. He tried the flexi trowel, but it wasn't helping him to get the job done. He's tried both plastic and metal blade skims. "I think the plastic one opens the skim up a little and lets the air into the surface. The plastic blade skim is slightly better than the metal one," he says. A tool he has his eye on is the Dewalt Mixer and looks forward to getting one. Bradders reveals that he has a mix of both traditional and modern tools with most drills cordless. "For plastering tools, I've had a Marshalltown trowel for 25 years." His current favourite is his motor tool. "I use it for absolutely everything," he adds. Further in the show, Chris spoke about some of the tools that have been introduced to the market since he's been in the trade - which is 36 years. Over the years, the best tool invented has been the spraying plastering machine, he says. Listen to the whole show here.
