AUIDO NEWS: Home Office cracks down on illegal construction workers and forklift driver wins a £1m

The Home Office is cracking down on illegal workers in construction.

Last week, the Metropolitan Police raided a building site and arrested 20 people suspected of working illegally.

While in the West Midlands teams carried out an operation against a collection point for ‘cash in hand’ workers.

Businesses found to be illegally employing someone could face fines of up to £60,000 per worker, director disqualifications and potential prison sentences.

The government has also pledged to make it a legal requirement for all companies to check everyone working for them has the legal right to do so.

A scaffolder in Stockton has been left baffled after a fence less than a metre tall was branded an eyesore by local councillors.

David Grange told his local paper that he didn’t think the black, rail fence outside his home would be controversial.

But despite planning officers having no objections to the fence, councillors rejected the retrospective planning permission, claiming it ruined the street’s open plan, ‘spacious feel.

Grange has been told he can grow a hedge instead.

A forklift driver has quit work after winning £1 million on a scratchcard.

Adam Lopez, from Norwich told the BBC he had bruised his arm from pinching himself after he discovered his win.

With his new-found wealth the 39-year-old went out and brought his mum a new car.
