AUDIO NEWS: Tradies warned to clear cut vans and police recover £1 million worth of power tools

Posted: Wednesday, June 26th, 2024

As temperatures soar across the UK, tradespeople are being urged to remove battery powered tools and batteries from their vans, in case they rupture and ignite.

With internal van temperatures reaching as high as 50ºC in the sunny weather, experts at Lease Van also suggest removing aerosol products, like pipe-freezing sprays or WD 40, because there is a small risk they may explode.

Tim Alcock, motoring expert at Lease Van said: “There are serious risks for tradespeople including explosions and fires if certain equipment is left in a hot vehicle over summer.”

Kent Police recovered over £1 million worth of stolen power tools in a single raid.

The police discovered 3,500 power tools in late April, but only finished cataloguing all the items.

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences relating to theft.

The police were led to the tool stash near Cranbrook by an Apple Air Tag that a tradesman had attached to his drill.
