AUDIO NEWS: Tradespeople warned over growing van theft threat and plumber climbs Mount Kilimanjaro

    Posted: Tuesday, June 17th, 2025

Tradespeople driving keyless vans are being warned about a new hack to steal their vehicles in under 60 seconds.

Criminals are manipulating short-wave radio waves to transmit a signal from the key fob to the receiver in the van. They can then open the doors as normal and start the vehicle.

Mike Thompson, COO with Leasing Options recommends tradespeople store key fobs in faraday pouches and if possible, turn off the wireless features on their vans.

Since 2020, van theft has surged across the UK, with over 12,000 vehicles being taken each year.

Small builders have a vital role to play if the UK is to solve its housing crisis, claims the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

Speaking after chancellor Rachel Reeves unveiled plans to invest £39 billion to boost social housing, the trade body demanded small local housebuilders be included in the procurement process for these projects.

Brian Berry, chief executive of FMB said that “small builders are uniquely positioned to unlock the potential of overlooked small sites, deliver high quality homes and boost local economies”.

A plumber from Bury flew out to Tanzania last week to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

Craig Walmsley started his fund-raising campaign after his friend and former apprentice suffered two strokes in 2020.

Walmsley has raised over £6,000 for the eight-day hike.
