AUDIO NEWS: Tradespeople burn more calories than sportspeople and tradies urged to remove tools from vans

Roofers burn more calories than professional sportspeople, claims a study from Selco Builders Warehouse.

The report from the builders’ merchant, claims roofers, labourers, carpenters and painters, all burned more calories in a working week, than a pro-boxer training for a bout.

Alison Wong, head of communications and sustainability at Selco said the high calorie burn rate of many of those working in the trades, means that “tradespeople could have done the [NHS] recommended amount of weekly physical activity before lunch time on Monday.”

Over ten million homes in England and Wales face higher rates of heat loss, due to insufficient insulation – that’s according to a report from EDF.

The research concluded that 45% of surveyed buildings were meeting outdated building standards, calling into question progress on home efficiency improvements.

The energy firm said it hoped its findings would spur on new measures to look at how insulation improvements and building controls can be implemented to cut the costs and emissions associated with domestic heating.
