Reducing energy consumption is a top priority for homeowners, claims a survey from Drayton Controls and Schneider Electric. Nearly 90% of the survey respondents said they’d prioritise energy saving home improvements over work to change the comfort or appearance of their properties Over half of respondents also said they were looking at technology like smart thermostats to reduce energy costs. Merline Milner, product owners, with Drayton said the survey “highlights a clear trend – homeowners are prioritising energy efficiency more than ever”. With temperatures hitting 30° degrees in parts of the UK, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) is reminding tradespeople to prioritise sun safety. Due to the nature of the job, construction workers face higher risk of sunburn, heat-related illness and skin cancer due to prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays (UV). The trade body also urged homeowners who have builders working on their property, to offer them water and shade where possible. Brian Berry, chief executive of FMB said, “sun safety isn’t optional — it’s essential for every tradesperson”. --- Driverless diggers are to be introduced on a building site near Manchester Airport. Taylor Woodrow plans to use the Yanmar machines, after they successfully completed trials at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield.
