Posted: Friday, July 18th, 2025

A suicide prevention campaign has been launched to help construction workers in Wales.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has partnered with NHS Wales to raise awareness, signpost people to support and break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

A poll from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) discovered that 27% of respondents had experienced suicidal thoughts over the past year.

Dr Chris O’Connor, clinical lead for the Strategic Programme for Mental Health at NHS Wales said the campaign wanted to encourage people “to have important conversations about their wellbeing”.

Cowboy builders have cost UK homeowners over £14 billion in the last five years — that’s according to research from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

The survey found that nearly 40% of adults had hired a builder that turned out to be unreliable or unqualified, and over a third had received poor quality of work.

The trade body is currently lobbying the government to introduce mandatory licensing for builders.

Brian Berry, chief executive for the FMB said: “This research lays bare the scale of damage caused by poor standards and a lack of accountability in the building industry.”

Tradespeople are happier, and work faster, when listening to Oasis, claims a poll from Tool Station.

Over 60% of survey respondents admitted to changing the radio station because they didn’t like their co-worker’s choice in music.
