AUDIO NEWS: Stock availability pushes push plumbers online and Danes look at robots to solve skills crisis

Posted: Friday, September 27th, 2024

Stock availability and next day delivery are driving more plumbers to buy their materials online – that’s according to a study by Installer and eBay

Despite 85% of installers saying they had brought materials online in the last year, “authenticity of the products” was still a big concern, particularly with the older age groups.

Nearly 20% of survey respondents said they’d had problems with online purchases, including receiving the wrong item and the product arriving late.

Andrew Gaved, editor at large with Installer said, “the interesting takeaway is that the trade wants the convenience of ordering when it suits them, but they also want it to make sense financially.”

Researchers in Denmark are investigating the possibility of using robots to address the country’s shortage of electricians.

The report by How to Robot reckons that ‘off the shelf’ technologies could address 14% of electrician shortage by 2030, and fully automated systems could tackle up to 70% of the problem.

Maria Schougaard Berntsen, deputy director of TEKNIQ Arbejdsgiverne said the “study shows that automation could be a key part of the solution.”

Josh Padley, the electrician who appeared on the Anthony Joshua/Daniel Dubois undercard last week, is heading back to work onsite from Monday.

The 28-year-old, part-time boxer caused a major upset when he beat Mark Chamberlain on unanimous points decision.
