AUDIO NEWS: Searches for green jobs surge and tradespeople head to the bathroom to decompress

Posted: Thursday, July 24th, 2025

The demand for clean home energy is creating thousands of green job opportunities, claims a report from Uswitch.com. An analysis of online job data indicates that searches for ‘heat pump engineer’ roles have jumped by nearly 30% in the last year.

Searches for solar panel installers have risen by 11%.

The report also hints at an increase in searches for strategic green roles, such as sustainability manager.

Ben Gallizzi, energy expert at Uswitch.com said: “From heat pump engineers to sustainability analysts, there’s a growing demand for people who can make homes cleaner and more efficient.”

Bankruptcies in the construction industry jumped by 18% in May 2025 — that’s according to data from the Insolvency Service.

In the same month, building firms accounted for over 17% of all insolvencies in England and Wales.

Despite the month-on-month increase, the number of building firms shutting down in the last year has dropped by nearly 6%.

If things are getting a little fraught on the job, tradespeople should head to the bathroom to decompress.

In a survey of 2,000 UK adults by Emergency First Aid at Work, over half admitted to regularly retreating to the bathroom to find a moment of peace.

And one in four people said it was the only place they could ‘fully switch off’.

Such ‘bathroom camping’ reflects a broader pattern of emotional retreat linked to mental fatigue.
