AUDIO NEWS: Rural areas lead heat pump rollout and jobs in Antarctica

Posted: Thursday, July 6th, 2023

Wealthy clients in rural areas are leading the heat pump rollout across the UK – that’s according to research from Harding Heating.

The survey suggests that three quarters of heat pump installations are in rural locations, and the UK’s richest are 30% more likely to install the low carbon systems.

The poll showed that two thirds of those that had installed a heat pump were satisfied with the running cost, even if there wasn’t significant cost savings, over a traditional gas boiler.

Despite progress on heat pump installations, Andre Harding, MD of Harding Heating warned that the government’s measures to electrify heating “didn’t go far enough”.

Remedial work to the UK’s poorest housing could generate as much as £135 billion in societal benefits, claims a report from the Building Research Establishment.

Societal benefits included savings to the NHS, lower energy bills and carbon emissions, higher asset values and greater economic opportunities, as a result of better health.

The report estimates it costs £1 billion per year to treat people affected by poor housing.

And finally, for tradespeople looking for a change in routine, there are jobs available in Antarctica.

Tradestaff Global wants to hear from qualified tradespeople to work during the summer season at the South Pole.

There are opportunities available for electricians, pipe fitters, installers as well as commercial builders, riggers, roofers, truck drivers and bulldozer operators.
