AUDIO NEWS: Rogue traders target generation z customers and sparkies feel optimistic about next year

Posted: Thursday, October 31st, 2024

Rogue traders are targeting ‘generation z’ because they are more clueless about house maintenance and DIY, than the elderly, claims research from Checkatrade.

The survey from the online directory platform, estimates that eight in ten, 18-to-24-year-olds believe they’ve been ripped off by shoddy workmanship and hidden charges.

Less than half of those over 65 felt the same.

Jambu Palaniappan, CEO of Checkatrade said that “dishonest operators erode trust in the trade… and it's alarming to see these unsavoury characters are zeroing in on gen z targets.”

Electricians are feeling optimistic about industry growth in 2025 – that’s according to a survey from BTF Automation.

In a poll of its system installers, 70% said they felt either positive or optimistic about industry growth over the next six-to-12 months.

The survey also revealed a surge in the volume of automated gate instals. Matthew Batson, director of sales at BT Automation said the increase in car crime and changing residential design aesthetics were accelerating demand for automated gate systems.
