AUDIO NEWS: Repeat tool theft incidents are on the rise and review of CITB calls for a reset

Posted: Friday, January 31st, 2025

Incidents of repeat tool theft are becoming a worrying trend for tradespeople — that’s according to research from NFU Mutual.

The survey of 500 tradespeople suggests that more than seven out of ten were hit by tool thieves in the last year, and of those 48% were raided on multiple occasions.

Today, more than 350 trade vans are expected to drive in convoy through London as part of a go-slow protest organised by Trades United.

The demonstrators want to raise the issue of tool theft and restrict the sale of second hand tools.

A review of the Construction Industry Training Board has called for a fundamental reset.

The review led by construction consultant Mark Farmer, also recommended that the CITB merge with its sister body the Engineering Construction Industry Training Body.

Although the government immediately rejected the idea of the merger, a committee will be set up to consider the rest of Farmer’s suggestions.
