Over 80% of electricians are struggling with late customer payments — that’s according to a report from Installer Electric. Other challenges reported by electrical contractors included customers not paying upfront, cash flow, and the rising cost of fuel, materials and insurance. Over a fifth of survey respondents also said they were facing skills shortages. Despite the issues, 48% of survey respondents said they expect turnover to improve in 2025. A little under a third predicted turnover will drop this year. --- Tradespeople are being urged to ‘think before they dig’ and check on the location of underground cables before they start excavation work. Research from LUBUD, claims there are 1,000 people a month panic searching on Google after hitting an underground asset. Gareth Pearson, from Northern Powergrid, a participant in National Safe Digging Week said: “underground cables can be buried outside homes and in driveways, which could put people at risk of life-threatening injuries if cables are hit while doing renovations.” --- A 13-year-old has become the UK’s youngest qualified digger driver. Finlay Gallagher started learning how to drive a JCB digger on his school holidays. He passed his Construction Plant Competence Scheme with flying colours.
