Milton Keynes has been voted the best city for tradespeople

The city topped the list due to its higher quality of life, better than average salary, good road network and drier weather conditions.

In the survey by kitchen supplier, Magnet Trade Norwich and then Ipswich featured in second and third place on the list. 

Northampton claimed fourth spot.

Croydon, Wigan and Manchester were listed as the three worst places for tradespeople to live.

Contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine has started using forensic marking technology to reduce tool theft from its sites.

SRM has partnered with Datatag ID to mark tools with invisible markers, microdots and tamper-evident warning labels that use unique identifiers. The tools are then registered in a database that can be accessed by the police.

Martin Cunningham, site manager at Sir Robert McAlpine told Construction Management the effect of tool theft on site had been considerable, impacting morale and disrupting work.

A community initiative in the Wirral has redistributed over a million litres of paint through reuse and remanufacturing. 

Community RePaint, run by Recipro collects paint from household Waste Recycling Centres, as well as receiving donated left-over paint from businesses and decorators in the local area.

The project, which has been running since 2013, has redistributed paint to hundreds of individuals and community groups “brightening homes and community spaces’ in the process.
