AUDIO NEWS: Installers fix unsafe gas work every quarter and CSMB hatches plan to attract 100,000 workers

Posted: Monday, June 30th, 2025

Over 80% of heating engineers have had to regularly fix unsafe work, by unregistered fitters — that’s according to a survey from ATAG Heating Technology.

A further one in five installers claimed illegal work was directly harming their business through a combination of lost contracts and time wasted fixing botched jobs.

Nearly two thirds of survey respondents felt that the best way to prevent illegal work was to restrict the sale of gas boilers to certified, Gas Safe engineers.

Kevin Treanor, director of ATAG Heating Technology said “every year around 250,000 gas jobs are carried out by unqualified individuals. We need to bring that number to zero”.
