Posted: Monday, July 7th, 2025

The house building sector returned to growth in June for the first time since September — that’s according to the Construction Purchasing Managers Index.

But a decline in civil engineering and commercial work pegged back overall construction output.

Tim Moore, economics director at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said June “highlighted a sustained downturn in UK construction output, albeit at the slowest pace in six months.”

Figures from the RAC also showed that the average price of unleaded petrol rose by 2 pence a litre.

RAC said it hoped fuel prices will now stabilise, but much depends on the margin retailers decide to make on petrol.

Just last week the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released a report calling out high retailer margins and a lack of competition for inflating fuel prices.
