The UK’s richest plumber, Charlie Mullins has blasted the American owners of his former firm Pimlico Plumbers, after they axed the apprenticeship scheme. 72-year-old Mullins has offered to fund legal action by the 16 apprentices who are losing their jobs. According to the MailOnline, the trainees, some of whom were just weeks away from qualifying, were offered just half a week’s pay for each year of their employment. Mullins built Pimlico Plumbers into a £50 million a year business before selling in 2021 to Neighborly for an estimated £140 million. --- Luton has topped the leaderboard as the best place to open a trade business — that’s according to research from Bionic. The business comparison website reckons that Luton-based tradespeople are earning 21% more than the UK average wage, which explains why the area has seen 40% growth in trade businesses in the last five years. The list is dominated by London boroughs, with Hackney, Islington and Camden also appearing in the top five. --- Jamie Fennelly, a plumber based in Kelvedon has started funding raising to provide a disabled local girl with a specialised outdoor cart. The cart would help Bonnie Wiseman, who has cerebral palsy to get out into the Kelvedon countryside. Fennelly said that meeting Bonnie and her family had made him realise that “there are lots of people in the community that need support”.
