AUDIO NEWS: Boiler Upgrade Scheme to be revamps and tradespeople finish Band of Builders job

The government is considering including air-to-air heat pumps and heat batteries, as part of an expansion to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). The plans were unveiled as part of a consultation process launched this week, designed to drive adoption of low carbon heating systems. The government also pledged to train 18,000 retrofitters to install heat pumps, insulation, solar panels and heat networks. Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh said “we are now proposing to give working families more choice and flexibility to pick the low-carbon upgrades that work best for them.” --- Three former managers from construction engineering firm Keltbray and a demolition boss have been jailed for corruption. Arben Hysa of Tony Demolition Workers was convicted of bribing the three managers over labour contracts worth £15 million. Former Keltbray employees Michael McCarthy, Simon Lacey and John Burke were convicted of taking more than £600,000 in bribes between 2012 and 2018. --- More than 25 volunteers working with Band of Builders have completed their latest project. In just three weeks, the tradespeople added a ground floor bedroom and bathroom extension to Paul Kitterman’s home. Paul, who used to work in a builders’ merchant, has been paralysed from the waist down since 2021 due to a spinal abscess.
