AUDIO NEWS: £173 million of heat pump money goes unclaimed and thieves grab £7,000 of tools

Posted: Wednesday, April 17th, 2024

£173 million in potential heat pump grants has gone unclaimed – that’s according to data from Ofcom, the energy regulator.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which was introduced in May 2022 to encourage homeowners to swap gas boilers for low-carbon alternatives, has issued £127 million worth of grants – less half of its total budget.

Since the start of the scheme and the end of 2023, 19,000 heat pumps have been installed, which is less than half of the 50,000 installations that had been expected.

Data from MCS indicated that the increase in the Boiler Upgrade Grant to £7,500 in November, has driven a spike in heat pump installations during Q1 2024.

Tool thieves ransacked a builders’ merchant and took £7,000 worth of equipment in a raid earlier this month.

In a statement, the Kent Police said three men left with several cordless drills, sanders and other items.

The police released CCTV footage of the three men they want to speak to in relation to the incident.

And finally, a US-electrician has thrown in the tools to become a professional Jeff Bezos impersonator.

Cagdas Halicilar, now makes a lavish living portraying the founder of Amazon and the world’s second richest man.

Moonlighting as Bezoz has earnt Halicilar several eye-popping opportunities including work on German TV.
