Over a million tradespeople and 350,000 apprentices are needed to meet market demand over the next decade – that’s according to research from Checkatrade. The website also claimed that due to lower interest rates and the improving economy the home improvement and repair sector was forecast to grow by 40%! An ageing workforce has exacerbated the ongoing skills crisis, with more than a third of tradespeople over 50 years old and “planning to retire”. --- High costs and a lack of understanding are holding back the adoption of heat pumps, claims research from Heatio and Perenna. The survey of more than 1,000 homeowners found that less a third were ‘familiar’ with heat pumps, and 18% said they didn’t trust the technology. Over a third of those that took part in the survey said they would need to borrow money to install a heat pump. --- Prices for unleaded petrol hit a 3-year low at the end of September. Depending on where drivers fill up, they could be paying as little as £1.26 a litre for unleaded – down nearly 70 pence a litre from its high point in July 2022. Simon Williams, RAC fuel spokesperson said: “There is scope for pump prices to come down further in the next few weeks to reflect lower wholesales costs retailers are paying.” --- To listen to the construction news please click below
