A humble snagging firm based in Swansea are getting to grips with their unexpected ‘fame’ on social media, after their videos exposing shoddy work from cowboy builders on their inspections have been consistently racking up millions of views, with people in disbelief at the some of the poor workmanship. John Cooper & Lee Challenger are the men behind snagging company, New Home Quality Control, and they’ve been amazed at the interest people have shown in their content. Some of their most popular videos expose the increasing number of fake weep vents being installed on new builds, bathroom door locks being fitted back-to-front, damaged bricks with the pair saying they find 160-200 faults on an average three-bedroom property. In one clip the lads tested the moisture content of some skirting near a window that had mastic sealing issues - returning a reading of 41.7% moisture content. The pair decided to launch the lucrative snagging business in 2018 after co-founder John encountered an incident on site that left him feeling guilty and needing a change. Speaking to WalesOnline, John recalled the incident on site "I was working on a site in Pembroke and one house had been left with a roof truss sticking right out of the brickwork," said John, 38, a carpenter by trade from Carmarthen. "The site manager told me to cover it up with fascia board, and because I needed the job security - mortgage and kids to pay for etc - I went ahead and did it.” THIS WEEKS SHOCKERS #snag #snagging #newbuild #newhome #construction #tradie #tradesmen #fyp #newhomequalitycontrol #shocking "But I'm a perfectionist and that incident played on my mind so much that I couldn't sleep. So I ended up quitting and going round to the address to tell owner exactly what had been done.” "I also pointed out a number of other things which were wrong and recommended she contact the National House Building Council.” As a result of their videos going viral, the business has taken off dramatically, with the pair having to bring on extra staff and completely booking out until the end of the year after the tremendous growth seen through TikTok and Facebook. "It's a combination of the tradesmen not having the knowledge and the increasingly high demand to hit targets and get people in homes”.
