A scaffolder from Yarmouth who hadn’t been paid for a job his company completed more than 5 months prior, took matters into his own hands last week - returning to the property and putting up sheeting that blocked the views of tenants. The dispute was over an unpaid bill of £4,600 that was due for work completed at the property in Great Yarmouth in October last year. Michael Black, from KB Scaffolding, felt he was left with no choice but to take such extreme action after months of sending invoices and asking for payment with no response from the building’s landlords, Dr Saffana Rasul and Akeela Ahmed. Understandably, the move upset the tenants in the building who complained to the landlords and while it might not be the most conventional way of recovering an unpaid bill - it worked! After putting the new scaffolding up on Friday March 12, just 5 days later the landlords paid up in full and the scaffolding was removed. Result! Scaffolder blocks tenants' windows in stand-off with landlord https://t.co/ucGsfCzHZM As reported by Eastern Daily Press, one tenant explained their version of events "When we saw them putting scaffolding up we did panic a little.” "We were told by the letting agent the night before there was a chance the scaffolders would block us in entirely and we might not be able to get out. "Turns out it was nowhere near that extreme, but residents on the first floor still couldn't see out of their windows for five days.” "I don't blame the scaffolders. They wanted their payment.” Mr Black has said the whole thing was totally avoidable and hopes he never has to resort to such drastic action to get a bill paid.
