There’s no disputing that being a sparky is a dangerous job, but on top of having a number of other specific skills and qualifications, an electrical firm in Turkey ensures their technicians undertake an extremely unique training method to improve their balance when on the job. Incredible footage shows a high-rise game of volleyball being played by trainee electricians at the Erzurum Aras EDAS Training Center, with recruits dangling at the top of 12-meter-high poles (40ft). Speaking to Demirören News Agency, one of the workers said “Playing volleyball on top of the poles is difficult but enjoyable.” It’s not the only unusual training method the Turkish training centre puts their aspiring sparky's through, with workers also taught horse-riding techniques in order to reach more remote settlements in the region during the winter months when roads may be closed due to severe snow. Hurriyet Daily News also reports that the trainee technicians are also made to lift the poles for weightlifting exercises and run a few kilometers dressed in full gear as part of the program. That electrical apprenticeship you did in the UK looks pretty good now doesn’t it? Watch the full video here. (H/T Hurriyet Daily News)
