Roadworks are a funny thing aren’t they. We complain while roads are getting fixed due the timely inconvenience and congestion they cause but we also complain when roads are in terrible shape with potholes and suggest that they really should be fixed. Makes you think doesn’t it. Equally unusual is how a plumber signing a song about roadworks can turn him into a local viral legend in a firm case of 'he’s saying what we’re all thinking.' Plumber Nick Emery, 45, was so excited to see the end of the temporary roadwork traffic lights set up around Joiners Square and Victoria Road, Stoke-On-Trent, that he recorded himself singing a song about it. Sung to the tune of “She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain”, the tradesman provided his own tweak on the classic with fresh lyrics “There are no more lights on Vicky Road’ before ending the clip with a few “wahoo’s’ and fist bumps. There are no more lights on Vicky Road 🙌🏼 And the clip seems to have struck a cord with locals, with more than 21,000 viewing it and commenting on the post, venting their own frustration at how long these roadworks have been going for and how equally excited they are to have them done with. The roadwork at the roundabout has been going on for seven months, causing significant delays for local motorists on one of the busiest roads int the area. Speaking to Stoke Sentinel, Mr Emery said “I go to the Pure gym on Vicky Road, so it was virtually impossible to bypass that horrendous headache." "Now that they've finished the work it’s changed my life. It’s given me an extra 35 minutes a day. It feels like it’s been a lifetime waiting for the work to be done.” "To be honest it’s a common subject in Stoke-on-Trent. It’s a massively busy road which affected a lot of people everywhere. We all need a good moan about something and this sort of disturbance ruffles a lot of feathers.” We’ll keep you posted if he ever decides to release a second single. (H/T Stoke Sentinel)
