Plasterer Caught For Insurance Fraud After Worldy Goal Shown On Soccer AM

Posted: Wednesday, July 7th, 2021

A plasterer and amateur footballer who was seeking £55,000 in insurance payout after being involved in a car accident that he claimed meant he could no longer work or play sport has been caught out - after his incredible goal from halfway was aired on Soccer AM.

Callum Saunders, 33, who played for Haywards Heath Town the Isthmian South East Division, was being investigated by his insurance company already as they suspected the plasterer was exaggerating his injury, based on the little evidence he provided backing up claims he could no longer work or play.

Unfortunately for the tradesman, after netting a sweet spot kick from the halfway line, the club uploaded footage of the strike to their YouTube channel which found its way onto Soccer AM and was broadcasted nationally on Sky.

During his hearing at Brighton County Court, the Daily Star reported that not only was footage from Soccer AM shown to rubbish his claim, investigators at Clyde & Co also undertook a forensic examination of the midfield player’s social media and found his Twitter account contained multiple posts about playing for West Sussex side Haywards Heath in the Isthmian League during the time he was alleged to be seriously injured.

Ruling that his claim “fundamentally dishonest”, he was ordered to pay £5,000 in court costs and and agreed to withdraw his claim.

Mr Rourke, of Clyde & Co, said: “Having consistently lied to increase the amount of money he thought he could claim, our investigation showed that he behaved dishonestly.”

Great strike though...
