Since 1999 TV Builder Nick Knowles has appeared on our screens as the face of DIY SOS, however reports are emerging that the long-standing presenter is facing the axe from the BBC for breaching their rules and appearing in an advert for breakfast cereal brand, Shreddies. To give you some context - the advert he has starred in has him magically appearing in a family home with a blue Shreddies hard hat on to help a father with some DIY and getting the kids up ready for school with the slogan “when things get tough, don’t eat soft”. Reports are emerging that BBC bosses are considering terminating the contract of Knowles due to the appearance breaching the broadcaster’s editorial guidelines that state “Actors and artists who perform in BBC output should not appear in promotional work, including advertisements, in a way which mimics or replicates their on-air roles for the BBC.” Never mind the fact that the bloke has changed countess people’s lives over the 2 decade run of the program and raised almost £1 million for charity last year for Children In Need with their Big Build - it’s a similar blue hard hat that could bring his tenure to an end. You might be thinking - well what’s the difference between this and Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker appearing in Walkers adverts for years? You wouldn’t be the only person to draw that comparison, with many alerting the BBC to that very fact. @BBCOne come on the beeb, give nick Knowles a rest would you! Honestly, what is the difference between nick Knowles doing this and Gary Lineker starring in walkers ads? The #BBC are happy to allow an overpaid Gary Lineker post his boring sanctimonious opinions on social media, but let's boot out Nick Knowles for doing a Shreddies advert. 🙄 https://t.co/GNSwFT1Lcs Reports also suggest the the broadcaster delivered somewhat of an ultimatum to Knowles, saying either Shreddies pulls the advert or he must leave DIY SOS. DIY SOS has been a staple on BBC One since 1999 and has featured a catalogue of British builders including Fix Radio's very own Chris Frediani - host of The Plastering Show each Friday from 1pm.
