Bricklayer’s Toy Leads Locals To Believe He Had A Crocodile In His Garden

Posted: Friday, September 24th, 2021

A Yorkshire bricklayer burst out in hysterics when he opened up the local newspaper to not only read a headline that there was a crocodile on the loose in his hometown, but that it appeared to be in his garden!

A photograph of the ‘reptile’ was taken by neighbour, Sarah Jayne Ellis, a nurse who had come home from a long overnight shift and thought to pass the image and story on to the local press.

That was when 58-year-old bricklayer, Nigel Holroyd, saw the headline of ‘Castleford Croc’ and realised it was his garden, and a toy he had purchased on a trip to Florida 21 years ago, that was causing all the commotion.

Finding the whole thing hilarious, Nigel said to metro.com, “It’s just a plastic toy crocodile!”

‘I left it in the grass to scare off my neighbour’s cat from my garden, but I ended up scaring her.’

Pointing out another funny sub-plot of the whole situation, the tradesman found it equally amusing that not only did his neighbour think there was a deadly crocodile in his backyard, but rather than alerting the family to the danger she decided to send a picture of it into the newspaper instead!

He said: ‘I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’ve even spoken to (Sarah) yet.

"She never came round and said - ‘Oh, there’s a crocodile in your back garden’.”
