A vast majority of tradespeople run their own business or at least would like to… Clive Holland learns from guests what makes tradies go out on their own and what’s stopping those who haven't yet. Tom shares why he decided to take the jump to start his own business. "I started my four-year apprenticeship when I was 16, and worked for a one-man band for a few years, after which I took up a job with an organisation. "During the pandemic, I was let go. At first, it was scary as I had just bought a house. But it turns out it was the best phone call I'd ever had. I then started my own business, which has been a great decision," he explains. For James too the idea came during the pandemic. "Before COVID-19, I worked for a firm for 50-60 hours a week. When I went back to work in September 2021 after being furloughed, I felt I needed to move on. "So far, it's been a good choice," he adds, as he's able to spend more time with his wife and two children. Listen to the full podcast here.
