UK tradespeople targeted by clever Screwfix phishing scam

Posted: Wednesday, October 30th, 2024

Tradespeople and small business owners are being urged to stay vigilant following the emergence of a clever phishing scam aimed at Screwfix customers, Liverpool Echo reported.

The con artists are luring potential victims with emails offering a chance to win a free Stanley tool kit by completing a "quick survey."

However, these emails are merely bait designed to defraud individuals of their private and financial details.

Software security expert Andrew Brown from Propel Tech provided insights on this deceitful practice: "The latest phishing email making the rounds is hoping to trick Screwfix customers into clicking on a 'quick survey' and giving away their personal and business details to online scammers."

These crafty emails sport an authentic Screwfix look and ramp up pressure with claims that the offer expires on the same day they are received.

However, upon meticulous examination, clear warning signs emerge, distinguishing these fraudulent emails from the legitimate communications of the well-known tool and hardware chain.

Scammers have set their sights on tradespeople and small business owners, aiming to steal their data and breach their valuable business information.
