Joel Bardall and Todd Von Joel discuss the challenges, opportunities and essential first steps necessary to establish a painting and decorating business. The pair also chat with fellow painters and decorators about their experiences when setting up their business. Bardall points out that gaining the experience beforehand is vital. "This is a key message. You need that experience. It's essential when you first start up your business. "Work alongside experienced decorators who'll give you that first, initial experience you need to set up on your own." Other tips include building up tools, sorting out transport, and business image. Callum Bonner from Pristine Decor in Scotland, joined the show to share his insight. "Before starting my business, I gained as much experience as possible and built up my tool kit of brushes, rollers, etc. "I also saved up the money I earned to put into the business, in case I needed a backup. When I started the business, I always took the cost of materials upfront from the client to cover the cost of the job." Listen to the podcast here.
