There's an increasing number of electricians who are choosing to specialise in niche sectors such as solar, EV, rail and even hotels. Thomas Nagy learns from Charlie Kemp and Lewis Dowman what drew them to specialise in hotel electrics. The pair explain what their 'specialism' includes: "Room refurbishments, open lobby works, planned preventive maintenance, rewiring, and installations." They also discussed what they enjoy most about working in hotels. "It's a comfy environment. It's always temperature controlled - warm in winter and cool in summer," they joke. Working in hotels also means they get to stay in four and five-star properties and bump into celebrities. "We've met the English cricket team and the Arsenal football team on some of the hotels we've worked on," Charlie and Lewis note. When it comes to challenges, work is around the clock and mostly nights or after breakfast. "We also have to comply with hotels' regulations on noise as customers complain. This is regardless of completion deadlines," Lewis discloses. Charlie adds that patience and people skills are highly needed in this sector. Listen to the full podcast here.
