Thomas Nagy and Paul Meenan discuss client and subbie relationship

Posted: Thursday, May 30th, 2024

Electricians take on a variety of jobs. Thomas Nagy and Paul Meenan list some of the benefits and challenges of being a subcontractor working for a main contractor or directly for a client.

As a subbie, Thomas focuses on highway maintenance. "It's just a nicer area to work in. We (Thomas and his team) did domestic for 20 years. I can't do it anymore."

Most of his work now is split between commercial, highways, and rail. The most significant benefit of taking on various jobs is cash flow.

The biggest downside of working as a subbie is time. "Nothing is quick. The bigger the client you work for, the slower and slower it takes for things to happen. You have to have the patience of a saint!" he quips.

Working client side, Paul says he hates it when subcontractors lie. "Every time someone has lied to me, I've always known."
