Sussex carpenter sets up workshops for women

Posted: Tuesday, November 28th, 2023

Georjie Adams built her own tiny home, but in the process, she faced relentless sexism and a constant "wall of exclusion", BBC reported.

That's why she set up In Her Hands, a space in Steyning, West Sussex, for women to learn what she believes are essential skills.

Tools were being taken out of her hand without her consent, she was also not allowed to cut her own timber at the timber yard.

She also faced sexism in the form of remarks on her outfits. “I can’t wear a toolbelt anymore because I got sick of hearing sexualised commentary,” Georjie revealed.

She said carpentry was "far more about technique and principle than how much muscle you've got in your bicep".
