The experts at Confused.com life insurance analysed reports of work-related stress, anxiety and depression across different industries, revealing which professions reported the fewest cases over the last 12 months, Electrical Times reported. In total, around 776,000 workers reported stress, anxiety and depression symptoms in the past year – that’s equivalent to 2,260 per 100,000 workers in the UK, according to HSE data. However, some industries reported well below this national figure, with those in skilled trades reporting just 720 cases per 100,000 employees in 2023/24. Those in these roles, such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, had the lowest reported instances of stress, anxiety, and depression of any industry. At a glance, these roles would seem to be amongst the least stressful in the country—but is this actually an issue of people not wanting to disclose that they’re struggling? While discussions around mental health have made great strides in recent years, it’s still something many struggle to talk about, especially when it comes to officially reporting issues in your workplace, as these stats suggest. Here’s the list of the five industries with the lowest reported cases of stress, anxiety, and depression: Job examples Rates of stress, anxiety, and depression per 100,000 in 2024 Electricians, plumbers, joiners 720 Metal working machine operatives, energy plant operatives 730 Bus and coach drivers, crane operators, farm vehicle drivers 750 Cleaners, labourers, waste collection 1,200 Sales assistants, retail cashiers, salespeople 1290
