Last week, 78 construction trainees across different trades went head-to-head over three days at the SkillBuild National Final. Robin Clevett caught up with carpenter, event judge and social media influencer, Tibby Singh about the competition. According to Singh, the SkillBuild competition is the UK's largest multi-trade competition with hundreds of applicants, of which only eight are shortlisted to compete in the national final. "For the final, the shortlisted trainees have to make a playhouse in three days, which is split up into three modules. On the first day, a framework had to be built, the second day to build the roof and the final day to fix the door and frame," said Singh. "We judge everything from health and safety to their internal cuts, drawings, dimensions of the project and overall appearance." Robin also chatted with Osian, the winner in the carpentry category. "It's been a stressful three days," he says, "not much sleep, but we got through with it in the end. I'm very happy with the end product I've got." Listen to the full episode here.
