On this week's Electrical Show, John Isherwood (standing in for Thomas Nagy) learns about Paul Meenan's life in the trade, work ethics, injuries and learnings on the tools Born and bred in Tottenham, Paul initially wanted to get into theatre lighting, which is why he picked up an electrical course at college. "My first salary was £26 a week from a company in Camden that did domestic/ commercial work. I then worked at a railway depo as an electrician's mate. Within three months, I got an apprenticeship with Emico," he states. He credits his work ethos to the people who mentored him and took the time to look after him. "My work ethic comes from my dad. I don't switch off." Over the next 15 to 20 years, Paul overworked himself until he injured his back. "I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and got repetitive strain injury in my joints. I was on painkillers and anti-inflammatories which then prompted me to get off the tool," he discloses. Today, he works with the railways as the head of mechanical and electrical. "I am blessed to have the career I've had and the way I achieved it." Listen to the podcast here.
