Local dailies pick up London mayor’s interview with Fix

Posted: Tuesday, August 8th, 2023

Several newspapers and industry publications have published Fix Radio’s interview with London Mayor Sadiq Khan on the expansion of London’s controversial ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ).

Daily Mail reported that “Mr Khan suggested health concerns should motivate tradespeople to exchange their non-compliant vans for cleaner vehicles”, when 'speaking to Fix Radio - a station for UK tradespeople'."

While The Construction Index reported: “Speaking to Fix Radio today, he said:  ‘It's in tradespeople’s interests to be having vehicles that are compliant because it means they take off less time from work by being unwell because of air pollution.’”

The Sun too, carried the story, reporting. "Mr Khan told Fix Radio: 'If you are driving a car that has to pay the ULEZ charge, it means you’re driving a vehicle where you’re breathing in more poison than you should be.'"

Last month, Fix Radio's research highlighted the impact of ULEZ on London tradespeople. The research secured articles in the Express, and The Sunday Express, as well as in several industry publications including Construction Index, Industrial News and Freelance Informer.

“We’ve been highlighting the challenge presented by the expansion of London’s ultra-low emission zone for tradespeople working in Greater London,” said Greg Wilson head of content, Fix Radio.

“One in four tradespeople working in the capital say the expansion of ULEZ will have a detrimental impact on their business. It is an issue that resonates with a lot of tradespeople across the country, not just in London,” he added.
