On this week's episode of The Painting & Decorating Show, our hosts read some of the most ridiculous customer texts painters and decs receive. "You get these customers. First, they think we sit around waiting for the phone to ring with nothing else in the world to do apart from their job. Then they ask these ludicrous things, which are very rude," Todd Von Joel declares. Joel Bardall says that the "worst" thing is when customers put a timeframe on the job. "Never let a customer dictate how long it's going to take you to complete a job," he says. "That is a red flag straight away." The pair also read other "bizarre" requests from customers such as last-minute cancellations and changes in the colour of paint. Todd explains that customers like these are bad for business as they don't realise how much time and effort is put into the job even before it starts. His recommendation is to charge clients a deposit when the job is confirmed. Joel also read out a text where a customer tells the painter that they can't afford scaffolding so he'd have to use a ladder and her husband would help with holding the paint brushes and other tools. Further, in the show, the duo discusses scenarios decorators find themselves in with customers and offer their advice. Scenario one: a customer decides to finish the job himself on the weekend after the decorator left the tools onsite. Joel says to ensure that boundaries are kept and strictly inform the customer that the site is to be left untouched. Scenario two: a decorator is being bombarded with texts from a client regardless of the time. Todd's suggestion is to never respond to texts outside working hours. Listen to the whole show here.
