InstaVolt delivers cheaper electricity to EV drivers

Posted: Thursday, September 5th, 2024

InstaVolt, a rapid charging network, has introduced off-peak pricing, to encourage motorists to use cheaper electricity, Electrical Times reported.

Drivers are now charged 54p per kWh between 10 pm and 6 am across InstaVolt’s network of more than 1,600 rapid chargers—more than a third off the regular price of 85p per kWh.

The lower off-peak rate is being introduced initially to InstaVolt App users. As the technology develops, it will be extended to contactless users before the end of the year.

Further advances are being made to support variable pricing solutions, including additional time-of-day and regional pricing.

Over one-third of the UK’s EV drivers are registered on the InstaVolt App so that many drivers can take advantage of this offer.

Drivers can download the app to take advantage of additional benefits, including the Volts scheme, which allows them to gain rewards with every charge, real-time availability, and partner promotions.

With the recent changes to the Government, InstaVolt continues to lobby on behalf of drivers to review the decision on public charging VAT at 20%.

The Basingstoke-based business currently operates over 1,600 live chargers and has more than 400 in construction across the UK.

The company plans to install 11,000 ultra-rapid chargers in the UK and Ireland and continue its European expansion, with 5,000 chargers across Spain and Portugal and more than 300 in Iceland by 2030.
